Abiskar Gyawali
12/24/1988 - 5/7/2022
Abi was a native of Nepal, and was a PhD student in our lab from 2018 -2022 and worked on various projects involving selection response. His first project was divergent selection for plant height in the Shoepeg landrace. He also worked on the NILAS project as part of the maize ATLAS project, examining whether there are pleiotropic effects of photoperiod QTL and on related and unrelated traits, as well as the effect of linkage between photoperiod QTL and other traits. Abi lost his battle to Leukemia in May 2022, right before he was scheduled to defend his dissertation. He was a proud father and husband, a wonderful friend, and a brilliant scientist. We have planted a tree at Genetics Farm as a tribute to him.
